How to Make Reading in English a Daily Habit

Reading every day is important when learning to speak English. Practising every day means you will see grammar in use and expand your vocabulary and understanding. Reading English every day, even in small amounts will help you memorise the language and increase your English levels.

Magazines
Reading either paper or online English magazines can be incredibly useful. You can find a topic you’re interested in and read an article, or a few articles a day. The pieces of writing should be quite short, so you can process it quickly and it will be fast enough to read one a day!

Online News Sites
There are plenty of online news sites where you can keep up with the daily news while practising your English. The articles are usually short, and you can read one or two of them each day. I recommend bbc.co.uk or reuters.com.

A Page or Chapter a Day
If you want to set aside some time every day to read a book, that would be a great way to practise reading English. Choose an English novel, and set yourself a goal for each day. A few pages or a chapter a day will help you to learn language and see written English in use. Choose a book that you might enjoy and something that is on your reading level.

If you’re learning to read in English, here are a couple of tips that can help you to keep working at it every day:

Reading Diary – Keep a track of what you’re reading. Maybe write some thoughts on the reading experience and what you think of what you are reading, whether it’s fiction or news - this will also help your writing skills!

Change your devices – Change your phone language to English. This will mean that whenever you are looking at your phone, you will be reading in English.

Hopefully these tips will help to keep you reading English every single day.

Here are my recommendations of some British book selections.
