The Traditional Full English Breakfast
On a weekend morning (or after a night of a few drinks as it is thought of as a 'hangover cure') you will find many British people have a “Full English”. This is a cooked breakfast containing bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, toast and sometimes other items such as hash browns, black pudding and chips.
Many Brits make this at home, especially at the weekends, when they are not working and have more time. It is also a very popular meal to order in a cafe or even in a pub. Many places serve this all day, but typically it is eaten for breakfast. British people will say, “A Full English sets you up for the day!” This means that you will not need to eat again for a good while after you eat this large, filling breakfast. Vegetarian and vegan versions are also available and becoming more popular. The informal name for a Full English Breakfast is a “Fry Up”. You must try this if you visit the UK!
