London in Autumn

Following on from my other post about autumn, which you can find here, I thought I'd tell you about some of the highlights of London in autumn.

  1. Admire the colours of autumn in one of London's beautiful parks. For avenues lined with golden trees, stroll through Regent’s Park. Kensington Gardens is also particularly beautiful at this time of year, as is Hampstead Heath. Primrose Hill and Greenwich Park provide great vantage points for a view over the autumnal city. The great thing about London is that although it is a busy, built up city, you are usually never more than a few minutes walk from a green space, whether that's a small square or a public park.

  2. Find a pub with a real log fire and have a Sunday roast. Is there anything cosier than a pub with a log fire burning? Read my post about Sunday roasts here.

  3. Celebrate Halloween. This is definitely more of an American tradition, but if you are in London around Halloween, you will still see Halloween decorations. Children may also go trick-or-treating. l have a separate post about this tradition here.

  4. Drink a warming drink. Coffee shops will start to sell pumpkin flavoured coffees and hot chocolate will become more popular. People in pubs may switch from drinking cold summer beers and instead drink a warm mulled cider, a whiskey or a glass of red wine.

  5. Watch the fireworks over the city from a good view point on Bonfire Night or crowd around a warming bonfire. l have a separate post about this tradition here.

  6. Visit London's incredible museums and galleries. Did you know that most of them are completely free?! (Please leave a donation if you can, but it's not necessary.) Indoor activities may be more appealing at this time of year. Some of my personal favourites are the National Portrait Gallery (Leicester Square), the Victoria and Albert Museum (South Kensington) and Somerset House (Aldwych). All of London's museums and galleries are fantastic though, so it's hard to choose favourites. I love how accessible they are to everyone because they are free to enter.

I hope this was useful. If you think your friends would like it, please send this to them or share it on Facebook. Thank you.
